With so much talk about lockdowns and quarantine, it would be forgiven if anyone mistook the title for being related to the pandemic. It may be however casually related, so please allow me to explain.

In 1999, when I first stumbled across laser devices that could be added to a medical practice, the term “aesthetic medicine” had not yet been invented. It eventually came into being as gradually more and more procedures, products, and tools became available over the years to allow non-surgical cosmetic enhancement to the skin and underlying tissues.

On March 14th, 2020, I was speaking at the Mexican Congress of Aesthetic Medicine in Mexico City when the news reports came in advising all Canadians to return home and self-isolate for 14 days. My wife and I quickly changed our plans and jumped on the first available flight home.
